Governor-elect of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, on Tuesday paid a visit to the dilapidated Arewa Textile Industry in the state stressing that the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, would ask all those who have looted the country to refund their loots.

El-Rufai targets a revival of the industry when he is sworn-in to office on 29th May.

The governor-elect, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, also lamented the huge debt burden the Buhari administration would be inheriting adding that people must be called to refund what they have stolen.

He said the looters will be asked to refund money include those in the state and federal levels.

“We will politely ask those who stole government money to return the funds,” El-Rufai said.

“This is because the APC government is made up of people who are ready to work for the masses and the betterment of the country.

“We will work with the textile union to ensure that the lives of the average Nigerians get better.”

He lamented the dilapidated state of the textile industry and its poor employment rate. Currently, the textile sector has about 1,600 employees

El-Rufai noted that the textile industries in Kaduna alone used to employ about 33,000 workers. He promised to work with stakeholders to revive the sector to generate employment.

“It is a shame that the largest economy in Africa imports textile materials from Senegal and other countries.

“We have met at a forum of northern governors-elect and we decided to ensure the revival of the textile industries,” he added.
