BENIN CITY – The Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has congratulated former governor, Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion, on his 69th birthday, describing him as a key figure in the political and democratic history of the state.

In a statement issued by the Office of the Governor, Okpebholo commended Igbinedion for his years of service and contributions to the development of Edo State during Nigeria’s return to democratic rule.

“On behalf of the government and people of Edo State, I congratulate our former governor, Chief Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion, on the occasion of his 69th birthday,” the governor stated.

Igbinedion served as governor of Edo State from 1999 to 2007 and was the state’s first civilian governor in the Fourth Republic.

Okpebholo noted that the former governor’s administration recorded achievements in education, infrastructure, economic development and governance.

According to him, the administration established the Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, to promote technical and vocational education, while also undertaking road construction and housing projects in Benin City, including estates for civil servants and security personnel.

The governor also recalled Igbinedion’s tenure as Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, where he collaborated with other state governors on national and regional matters.

He said Edo State continues to benefit from the contributions of its past leaders, adding that Igbinedion remains a proud son of the state whose years in public service deserve recognition.

Okpebholo prayed for good health, long life and continued relevance for the former governor, as well as strength and wellbeing for his family.
